|The Heart of Newburgh was born in 1982 in the historic town of Newburgh, Indiana. Newburgh is located on the banks of the beautiful Ohio River in southwestern Indiana.
The business began as a home-based painting studio by folk artist Becky Geis. It has grown up since then.
Becky works back and forth between the shop and her home which is located just 2 blocks from the Ohio River. The Greek revival home was built around 1900 and used as home and office by Dr. Mary Phelps. Dr. Phelps was the first woman doctor in this area.
Starting with a few antique chocolate molds in 1987, the Old at Heart Collection of vintage style papier-mache pieces began. These pieces were offered for sale in the retail shop. In 1990, they were available wholesale. Prints and cards of Becky's original artwork are now offered. The Heart of the Home Collection is a 20-year gathering of great products that are only offered at retail prices. See a list in my menu.
